About

(excerpt and edited from Leaf Chronicle July 2016)

This month’s downtown business spotlight, we are “re-introducing” you to Mildred & Mable’s. This unique boutique, at 109 Franklin St., has been a fixture in downtown Clarksville since 2011. “Inspired by Tradition” — this distinctive downtown shop offers a large selection of gifts for every occasion, clothing and jewelry.

The military brought Andrea Herrera, owner of Mildred & Mable’s, and her husband Colonel Sal Herrera, to Clarksville in 1998. Originally from Oklahoma and California, they have made Clarksville their home and raised their two children here.

Always wanting a store like her grandmother’s, Andrea (and Sal) bought a building that had been sitting vacant on Franklin Street since the 1999 tornado. While the building did not experience tornado damage, it still needed significant renovation work and did not even have a working bathroom. Andrea recalls solid pegboard on all the walls on the two bottom floors and how that all had to be removed piece by piece. Isabella Sophia Salon, also owned by Andrea Herrera, is also on the premises. These two of specialty businesses fit a unique niche within the Clarksville community.

Five things you may not know about Mildred & Mable’s:

  • Mildred & Mable’s is named after Andrea’s great grandmothers, and the cash register in the store is from Mable’s general store in Oklahoma.
  • Mildred & Mable’s “incubated” Couture Crush and Horsefeathers. Both of these businesses started as small shops within the walls of Mildred and Mable’s. They became so successful that they needed to expand to their own, separate locations, wanting to stay in downtown Clarksville. Couture Crush is at 101 Franklin St., and Horsefeathers is at 94 Franklin St. Andrea encourages and supports other small businesses to open and grow within the walls of Mildred & Mable’s.
  • Mildred and Mable’s won the Reader’s Choice awards the last two years for “Favorite Local Boutique.”
  • Over 100 vendor lines are carried seasonally in the store.

If you are already a regular shopper at Mildred & Mable’s, thank you for your support of a local, homegrown small business — especially one of our military families!
